A grateful giveaway
Yesterday my husband, little boy and I were driving home from a soccer game, and somehow the subject of music came up. After we talked for a few minutes about some of our favorite songs, my husband and my son started singing a song that they listen to on their way to school in the mornings.
I had never heard the song before in my life. Needless to say I felt terribly left out of their musical fun.
Oh, I kid.
Anyway, once they finished their impromptu medley, my husband asked me what A. and I had been listening to on the way home from school in the afternoons. I rattled off the names of five or six of our favorite Christian artists, and then we launched into medleys once again.
You may have picked up on the fact that in our house, we like to sing.
This morning I’ve been adding some new music to my iTunes, updating my iPod and basically indulging in some serious musical geekiness, but I was struck just a second ago by how GRATEFUL I am for the abundance of Christian music that’s available to us. When I was growing up the options were a smidge limited - but now those options are wide open. There is edifying music for every age and stage of life, and I am so, so thankful that there’s a six year-old in this house who has learned countless hymns and praise & worship songs just from riding around in the car with his mama and daddy.
That can’t be a bad thing.
I have ten real-live, “grown-up” CDs to give away - music from some of the greatest contemporary Christian musicians out there (Casting Crowns, Third Day, etc.). This is music you can listen to with your kids in the car, but it’s also music you’ll love listening to when your kids aren’t in the car. And if you’d like to win one, just leave me a comment and tell me the name of your all-time favorite band. So simple.
This giveaway will be open until Sunday, May 2nd, at which point I’ll select 10 winners randomly.
Thanks for participating, everybody!

My all-time favorite band? Ooh… that’s tough. If I’m being honest, I’m going to have to go with an 80s rock band like Poison. Man, I still know all the words to some of those songs!
April 26th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
My all-time favorite band has to be Bon Jovi. I went to see them in concert when I was in 9th grade and I can still sing most of their songs off that CD!! Now though, I love listening to Third Day.
April 26th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
My current favorite band is the David Crowder band. Would love to win a CD!!
April 26th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Seriously? An all-time favorite? That’s a tough question!
I guess I will always love Shane and Shane, since I was lucky enough to see them in concert a couple of times before they were “famous.” They make great music.
Do you have a favorite?
April 26th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
Hard question! But I’d have to say that my all-time favorite band would be Casting Crowns!
April 26th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
this is hard!! I guess I would say that my “all-time” favorite band would be Alabama. HA - I know probably sounds funny - but I grew up on them and I still can sing just about every one of their songs! However, my favorite band for the last 5-6 years has been Casting Crowns! Their heart for the Lord shines in everything they do. My “all-time” favorite artist is Steven Curtis Chapman - been listening to him since I was 11 - almost 20 years!! I still cannot get enough SCC!!
I do so love praise baby too
April 26th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
Hmm….all time favorite would be U2. But my teenager is sitting next to me, and wants me to put his–Hawk Nelson.
April 26th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
I’d love to win one of your grown up CDs. They only let me sing in the car … by myself … so that would be perfect. thanks!!
April 26th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
all time favorite? i could never choose. i have really been enjoying khrusty brothers lately but i can’t get anyone to join me. u2 is always great. i’ve been wanting to buy david crowder band cds for awhile. maybe today is a good day to do that…
April 26th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
Oh my goodness, it’s so hard to choose!! I love “oldies” like U2 and the Beatles but I truly love anything by Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman
April 26th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
I would have to take it back a few years and say Bon Jovi!
April 26th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
We are a family who loves music, too– It touches my heart every time I hear my 3-yr-old singing along to some praise song on the radio!
My favorite band is Third Day, and it would be super convenient if I happen to win one of their CDs….
(but I’d take ANY of the CDs you are giving away!)
April 26th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
I’d have to say mine is a toss up b/w Robbie Williams & Bon Jovi. I’d love to see either of them in concert!
April 26th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
I can’t do it! too many to chose! Would love to win though:)
April 26th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
All time favorite?! Lordamercy, I wouldn’t know where to start
But I would definitely say that Watermark is in the Top Five.
April 26th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Remembering my childhood, I’d have to say Alabama is my all-time favorite band. We used to listen to their records every Saturday while we cleaned the house from top to bottom.
Nowadays, my radio station is always on K-Love. And I do love me some Casting Crowns. Also love Audio Adrenaline since they are from our local KCU (KCC back in the day).
Wow, it would be nice to win this and get the chance to listen to something in the car besides singing vegetables. Not that I don’t enjoy vegetables teaching my toddler worship music, but you get the idea…
April 26th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
Found you through Boo Mama… and all time favorite… Darlene Zchech/Hillsong… But if I’m working out I love 80s rock with a big tempo - like Boston or as others said BonJovi! fun fun!
April 26th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
I love Rascal Flatts, Casting Crowns to name a couple!
April 26th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
I would have to say that my all time favorite band is either David Crowder Band or Selah. My all time favorite artist is Steven Curtis Chapman, though.
April 26th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Wow! Grown up music. I love me some Casting Crowns, but if I’m honest, my all-time favorite has to be Chicago! I love their music and can remember the words even today!
April 26th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
I love it all~ old U2, old Bon Jovi, but I really like everything, even ABBA. Now I love Chris Tomlin. He just seems to get it.
April 26th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
My all-time favourite band would have to be Casting Crowns! I love that their lyrics mean something
Please enter me
April 26th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
What a fun giveaway. I love my Christian music…especially on my drive to and from work.
April 26th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Hard to say a favorite band…maybe the Beatles. Oddly enough, I don’t listen to a lot of bands, more solo artist. Love Chris Tomlin and Matt Maher these days.
April 26th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
I love so many!!! I would say Casting Crowns or David Crowder Band!
April 26th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
I’d have to say Caedmon’s Call, but Avalon and Watermark are close seconds — they were so present during my college years and the memories and growth from that period of my life are huge.
April 26th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
What a great giveaway! YAY! If we’re talking BANDS here, as in a GROUP, I would have to say that Third Day is my all-time favorite. I used to dream of marrying Mac Powell!
But if we could name any artist–single or group–it would be a toss-up between Third Day and Nichole Nordeman for me.
April 26th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
I Love Rascal Flatts and Casting Crowns!!
April 26th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
I only ever listen to our local Christian music station in the car, but I’m so terrible with names of artists/musicians that I couldn’t tell you who is my favorite….. pretty sad!
April 26th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Caedmon’s Call - they are AWESOME!!!
April 26th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
My all time favorite band has to be the Newsboys. On another note, we have the Praise Baby DVD, and my 5yo son will notice any time one of the songs from that DVD plays on the radio or in church and say it’s a “Praise Baby song”.
April 26th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
i am too so grateful for the wide range of christian music available. we love third day, casting crowns and this week i’ve been enjoying alan jackson’s precious memories album. i don’t think i really have a favorite.
April 26th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Okay, I am old school Christian music.
Probably The Imperials.
They really broke a lot of new ground in the late 70’s and 80’s.
I think I had every one of their…
cassettes …yeah.
Thanks!
April 26th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Steven Curtis Chapman is an old favorite for me.
April 26th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
I love U2 and Casting Crowns. It is a day-by-day thing, however!
April 26th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
In high school, DC talk was my favorite group. In college, my favorite group was Ten Shekel Shirt until I heard some disappointing news about one of the members. Now that I am married and a mommy, my favorite is probably anything by the talented Chris Tomlin. That guy writes amazing music and is very talented! My 20 month old would LOVE the Baby Praise CD’s. Even if I don’t win it, I will definately be wanting to get it for him!!!!
April 26th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
All time favorite band? I’m terrible with favorites! Usually, it’s whatever music I’m happening to enjoy at the moment. Right now, I’m loving Laura Story and a band called 10th Avenue North… but this is subject to change at any minute!
April 26th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Hmmm…that is tough! My all-time ever favorite singer has always been Amy Grant. As for a band, I love Third Day and Casting Crowns. I guess a lot just depends on my mood, as I always love Michael W. Smith & now Mark Schultz as well. Thank you for a fun giveaway!
April 26th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
So many great bands. I listen to a lot of different stuff. I don’t think I can choose. I know that is pathetic. I hope I win anyway. Thanks
April 26th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
I have a lot of favorites from all different genres of music (Alabama, George Straight, Faith Hill, Watermark, Steven Curtis Chapman, Amy Grant, Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Harry Connick Jr., to name a few), so I don’t know that I can actually pick ONE all-time favorite. So, I’d be happy with whatever I won.
April 26th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
I don’t know that I have one all-time favorite band, at the moment I am loving Addison Road. I also enjoy Travis Cottrell and Casting Crowns.
April 26th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
My favorite band has always been Chicago. But these days, I really enjoy Casting Crowns. Thanks for such a great giveaway.
April 26th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
All time favorite. Hmmmm. Well, probably the Beach Boys. I grew up listening to lots of different music, and I like almost all genres (not a big punk/heavy metal fan), but my dad was a Beach Boys fan and it just reminds me of childhood. I break out their CDs when the weather turns warm.
April 26th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
My all time favorite would have to be Bon Jovi.
But I have a widely varied musical taste.
April 26th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Boo Mama sent me. I can’t get enough music right now as I recently learned I have breast cancer and Casting Crowns and Travis, and others so bring God to me!!! I just have to leave a comment to enter! Thanks for doing this!
April 27th, 2009 at 12:48 am
I love Edwin McCain. Thanks for the chance to win! Blessings ~
April 27th, 2009 at 6:12 am
I don’t have an all time favorite… is that sad?
I love listening to the Christian radio station, and adore hearing my girls (ages 6 & 3) pick up the lyrics and sing them as well. Right now my 3 year old loves to hear “Cassi Cowns” - Casting Crowns
Thanks for the chance to win!
April 27th, 2009 at 6:45 am
U2. Thanks for the post and the giveaway!!
April 27th, 2009 at 7:08 am
I like so many bands. Music is a great love of mine.
Casting Crowns
Mercy Me
Tenth Avenue North
April 27th, 2009 at 8:11 am
The Monkees are my all-time favorite band, but Third Day is also right up there. For singles, there are times in my life that Rich Mullins provided the soundtrack and helped me keep on when I wanted to give up.
April 27th, 2009 at 8:16 am
I could never choose a favorite, as that would limit me to one jenre. I listen to just about every kind of music and love it all. Well, except for rap. I never really enjoyed that.
Lately the new Kelly Clarkson CD has been in the car, and I can’t seem to get enough of it.
We had a Third Day song sung at our wedding, and that was 10 years ago…before it was “cool” to not have “church music” in your wedding. People thought we were weird. We loved it.
April 27th, 2009 at 8:19 am
Yeah! I love new cds! Some of my favorites artists are Sugarland, John Mayer, Amos Lee, Rascal Flats, Third Day, Ginny Owens, & Michael W. Smith.
Thanks for the opportunity to win a cd!!!
April 27th, 2009 at 8:21 am
Favorite band? Hmmm…might be a toss up between Watermark, Selah, and Casting Crowns. Probably Casting Crowns. Thanks for sharing the wealth!
April 27th, 2009 at 8:22 am
my all time favorite band (group) is definitely Crosby Stills & Nash, with their beautiful harmonies. if you were to ask my 6 month old granddaughter, eva (& if she could talk), she would say the Praise Baby CD’s. she sits in her swing & coos right along.
{& to bev brandon above - hang in there! i’ve been thru breast cancer, too, & our God is able! He will give you what you need for each day!}
April 27th, 2009 at 8:48 am
When I was really young I would have to say that the Bay City Rollers (anyone remember them) were my all time favorite. But in my teen yers it had to be Def Leppard. Now in my older years I love the “WOW” CD’s. That way I can listen to all the great ones.
April 27th, 2009 at 9:58 am
I love MercyMe.
I also really like Casting Crowns and Third Day.
Thank you for the giveaway.
April 27th, 2009 at 10:03 am
Just one favorite? I’d have to go with Rich Mullins. I have this picture in my head that when I get to heaven I’ll get to take hammered dulcimer lessons with Rich. Until then, I still love his music.
April 27th, 2009 at 10:05 am
found you through boo mama - this is a great giveaway. My all time favorite has to be Elton John!
April 27th, 2009 at 10:11 am
Oh I would love to win a new cd. My all time favorite artist is Amy Grant because she was the first Christian music I was exposed to when I was younger other than music we sang in church. I also like Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman, David Crowder, Natalie Grant…too many to name. Thanks.
April 27th, 2009 at 10:49 am
My Fav is rascal flatts!!
April 27th, 2009 at 10:59 am
I like a variety of music except country music. My favorite Christian music is David Crowder, Third Day, and Charlie Hall. Music just makes me happy!
April 27th, 2009 at 11:00 am
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Third Day, Casting Crowns and Chris Tomlin!
Rebecca
April 27th, 2009 at 11:16 am
All-time favorite IS difficult. Umm…. I think I’ll say Chris Rice, because I keep coming back to his mellow music from years ago. Still, I do love a big bunch of others that are almost equal!
April 27th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Right now, it’s Third Day. But, it seems to change with whatever album resonates with me most at that moment/season. Casting Crowns, Mercy Me, Passon are all favorites as well.
April 27th, 2009 at 11:38 am
I love Christian music. Some of my favs are Casting Crowns, Third Day, Chris Tomlin, and many more. Would love to win. Thanks for the giveaway.
April 27th, 2009 at 11:58 am
There will always be a special place in my heart for DC Talk!
April 27th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
We are huge fans of Casting Crowns, Third Day, Jars of Clay, and Mercy Me. For me, though, it is kind of a “who am I listening to this week?” sort of thing. Lately I’ve been tuning in to Addison Road, 10th Avenue North, and a real fave is Chris Tomlin…Sorry, there is no choosing just one here!
April 27th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
As many others have said, it’s hard to pick one band… but assuming you meant Christian bands, I’d have to say Third Day or Casting Crowns.
But if you meant any band… I’m just a little embarrassed to say The Eagles… love me some Don Henley voice.
Thanks for the opportunity to win!
April 27th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Great contest! This is a tough one, but for favorite group I would have to say Selah.
April 27th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
My all-time favorite is Play Chase. You can check them out at http://www.playchasemusic.com
April 27th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
I am very into Tenth Ave North these days, but I also love Casting Crowns and Third Day.
April 27th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
The David Crowder Band. They are amazing! <3
April 27th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Ooh, my alltime favorite band…that’s tough.
There are so many good ones! I would probably say DC Talk, though, because they were so COOL when I was in high school.
Last year, some of the teen camp staff were asking, ‘Who’s DC Talk?” and I couldn’t believe it!
April 27th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
Amy Grant will always be my favorite Christian artist. She was the first Christian artist I listened to as a kid and she has always been my musical friend.
As for a group…I would say Mercy Me is my favorite group. Their worship just gets in my soul!
What great memories you are creating for your son.
April 27th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Oh my gosh, can’t believe no one has said my favorite…Jeremy Camp!! LOVE his music! We also enjoy Chris Tomlin (family friend, adore him!) and DCB (Dave Crowder). My son only sits down to watch two things - Elmo & Praise Baby! Ha!
April 27th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
My all-time favorite band is Alabama. I also love Chicago. Apparently, I have become my parents…
April 27th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
I am really not a music guru. My husband and son are though. I do have to say I have always loved Third Day.
April 27th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
I love Casting Crowns. Would love to win a cd!
April 27th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
Thanks for the opportunity to win some grown-up music. I am absolutely loving Casting Crowns, I think they are my favorite. Plus Third Day is great!
April 27th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
That’s a difficult question. There are so many to choose from… Third Day & The David Crowder Band would have to top my list.
Both of my boys are Praise Baby fans! Although it is a little hard to find them in our town!
April 27th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
I don’t know if they are my all time favorite but right now I really like Casting Crowns. I haven’t heard a song by them yet that I didn’t like.
April 28th, 2009 at 1:34 am
Wow, all time favorite huh? That IS hard; let me see, whew I guess I will pick Selah. Thanks for the Giveaway. God Bless You!
April 28th, 2009 at 6:05 am
I guess that i would have to say that Bon Jovi was my favorite in high school and early twenties but i really like Natalie Grant also!!!
April 28th, 2009 at 7:35 am
one favorite is so hard, somemimes I want to listen to something specific for a mood. Favorites are Selah, Casting Crowns, delirious!, Ginny Owens, Tenth Avenue North, Brandon Heath, and on and on…
April 28th, 2009 at 9:08 am
Third Day is really popular around my house, but Day of Fire is a good choice for just rocking out. I must admit that even though I’m an adult, I still listen to my Praise Baby CDs when I’m by myself.
April 28th, 2009 at 10:53 am
So hard! So many to pick from. Right now I really like BarlowGirl.
April 28th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
I love Casting Crowns and MWS too! Thanks.
April 28th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
All-time favorite? Wow, that’s tough. I was a die-hard Guns N Roses fan way back when… then I switched over to country music…. and these days I split my time between Country and Christian Rock. In the more recent years, I’d say Rascal Flatts.
At any rate, I would LOVE to win this, as the only new CD’s in my house for the past five years or so have been kids’ music… and I’m really tired of singing VeggieTales songs and songs about dinosaurs. Thanks for the chance!
April 29th, 2009 at 7:44 am
Just one favourite? I’ll have to pick Great Big Sea, though I’m also really loving Casting Crowns these days too.
Thanks for the giveaway! Some grown-up music would be fantastic. Veggie Tales, Sesame Street and Bob the Builder are getting old. (Who am I kidding? I love Sesame Street!)
April 29th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Oh my word. I was just telling the kids last night that Momma needs some new, updated music for inspiring and focusing my heart and mind! Seriously, just last night. (You know, dropping broad hints as Mothers’ Day approaches!) I would love to win some new music. Count me in!
April 29th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
I wouldn’t say I have a favorite band, but I like Chris Rice and Carmen.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Rascal Flatts and Third Day are my all time faves!
sblilly14(@)yahoo(.)com
April 29th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
No way you’re going to nail me down to just one…Mercy Me, Casting Crowns, dcTalk, Jars of Clay, Hillsong, Selah, 4Him, Rascal Flatts, Burlap to Cashmere, Sixpence None the Richer, Nickel Creek…just to name a few.
April 30th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
You mean there’s other music out there other than kid’s praise music??
What??
You’d best enter me then!! I could use some new music.
Jolanthe
May 3rd, 2009 at 9:20 pm
My ALL time favorite would have to be U2. But currently the PraiseBaby Collection runs a close second! Love your CDs!
